Each year, we embark on a journey of exploration and expression by selecting a theme that unites all our exhibitions. This year, we invite you to delve into the intriguing concept of TIME, a force that not only shapes our experiences but also profoundly influences the essence of existence. The conversation surrounding time is as diverse as the artists, designers, and curators it inspires. We encourage our contributors to interpret this theme from their unique perspectives, selecting or creating works that reflect their insights. With TIME as our focal point, we aim to uncover cultural shifts that resonate now and hint at those to come.

TIME is multifaceted—a dynamic concept that can be perceived in countless ways. It encompasses the lengthy process of artistic creation, the transient nature of materials, and the contrasts between traditional and digital art forms. Our goal is to encourage a deeper inquiry into the paradox of time: it shapes us and defines our choices, yet remains an elusive concept.

From the slow, unyielding flow of geological time to the fleeting moments captured in a photograph, we invite you to explore the layers of meaning that time presents. Consider how it has been personified throughout history—sometimes as a stern figure with a scythe, a reminder of inevitability, and at other times as a sacred entity beyond human control. As we entered the industrial age, time transformed into a commodity—standardised and fragmented, evoking both progress and anxiety.

Sigmund Freud introduced another dimension of time, revealing its elasticity within the realm of dreams, where past, present, and future intertwine fluidly. This fluidity mirrors the geological history of our planet, where aeons collapse into layers of sediment, capturing the rhythms of Earth’s existence. Artists have long grappled with the concept of time in their work. From Monet’s shifting light in his series on Rouen Cathedral to Dali’s surreal melting clocks symbolising dreamlike fluidity, time has been rendered in countless forms. Today, time-based media—such as video, film, and installations—further expand this

exploration, turning time itself into a medium for artistic expression.

This year, we invite you to ponder: Is time simply a construct of human perception, or does it possess a tangible essence? Can we measure it accurately, or does it, in turn, measure our lives?

Ultimately, time remains a transitory force with enduring effects—etched in the contours of Earth, captured in the moments frozen by lenses, and intricately woven into the fabric of the human experience. Join us in this captivating exploration of TIME, a journey that promises not only artistic revelation but also a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
