J.Cassette | Open Studio
For this year's Somerset Art Works Open Studios event, CLOSE will be opening up the studio of our Artist in Residence J.Cassette.
CLOSE is delighted to present Process and Time. Cassette has been investigating advancements in digital art, and its rapid pace of development within the creative industries which has accentuated uncertainty for the future of drawing, painting and sculpture.
Cassette’ new body of work considers the dialogue between the value of human and digitally made art. Through replicating by hand a digital image, Cassette investigates an idea of emotional void when work is made by machine rather than by hand. The pixel motif is the bond throughout the work; it represents the digital, but also process, repetition and time.
The hypnotic sculpture is based upon the first encounter of the sink hole at Trevone North Cornwall it continues the concept of the pixel motif within a natural form evolving into something more primal and ancient. The processes, experimentations with materials for the making of the sculpture are displayed, giving equal value to each piece placed, a suggestion of artefacts that have been buried and rediscovered. A museum for the future to observe lost processes in the making of art.
