At the end of 2025, Myrna spent three months in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, where she grew up. During this time, she revisited places that brought memories of her childhood....
At the end of 2025, Myrna spent three months in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, where she grew up. During this time, she revisited places that brought memories of her childhood. She flew a drone over the land behind her family home to observe how it has changed over the years. Once used for growing corn and marigold flowers (flor de cempasúchil in Spanish), plants tied to her early memories of playing outdoors, the terrain now lies mostly unused, though some people have begun to use it as a site for waste disposal / fly tipping.
This painting emerges from a blend of memory and imagination. It presents a blurred place where contamination is erased and the land is re-envisioned as an idealised space. Earth tones dominate the composition, echoing the colour and texture of the soil itself.
