Trish Morrissey's short film EUPNEA | Women Over 50 Film Festival 2023

Back in July of this year we announced our representation of Artist / Filmmaker / Photographer & Visual Historian, Trish Morrissey. Morrissey is currently exhibiting her work in a solo show titled Autofictions: Twenty Years of Photography and Film at Impressions Gallery, Bradford, until 14 October.

On Saturday 23rd September Morrissey's short film EUPNEA, was shown to a packed cinema audience for the first time, as part of the Women Over 50 Film Festival 2023, selected from hundreds of films made by or about older women. EUPNEA was then awarded second place in the Experimental Film section.

"EUPNEA is a surreal journey through life, death, loss, longing and maternal desire, one breath, one heartbeat at a time. The atmospheric soundtrack combines recordings of hospital sounds, heart beats, breathing and whispered prayers and incantations. “Eupnea” is the medical term for the effortless normal breathing pattern common to all mammals." Trish Morrissey

The judges said about EUPNEA:

A sophisticated film that holds breath as it's central thread to impactfully tell the story of a mother’s loss. Through its montage approach to the edit it takes the viewer on a multi-layered sensorial emotional journey.”

Tickets for the online festival are still available through the WOFFF website until it closes on 9 Oct 2023. See EUPNEA and over fifty other short films from around the world.

You can see the film live at Impressions Gallery until 'Autofictions' closes on 14 October.
