This September: Magnus Hammick exhibition & Fiona Yates open studio

This year for Somerset Open Studios, 16 September- 1 October 2023, CLOSE will present an exhibition 'First Light' by Magnus Hammick and Fiona Yates will be our Artist in Residence in the CLOSE Studio.

Hammick will present a series of enlarged, abstracted photographs of an oak tree, captured on his daily walk in the early hours of the morning, which will then become a performance piece. More details to follow.

Yates has just completed her Fine Art degree at University Centre Somerset and will continue exploring her interest in the advancements in digital art - she 'considers physically made art, its processes and value within. Contextualising his dialogue, through replicating by hand a digital image considers emotional loss if creating by hand is not present in the work.'

This two-week event is organised by Somerset Art Works, a charity based in Langport - Somerset's only countywide agency dedicated to developing the visual arts. Freeny Yianni, CLOSE's Creative Director is proudly Co-Chair of Somerset Art Works, you can read more about the organisation HERE

Look out for the free Somerset Open Studios guide which will be available across Somerset in August.
